MOOCS

The researchers in the LIGHTCAP consortium have developed four Massive Open Online Courses, for anyone interested in entering the lighting domain, or learning more about it.
This collection of MOOCS will become a persistent training resource for young researchers across the globe.
They are intended to be entry level (BSc), and they are publicly and freely available. A formal certificate can be acquired at a modest fee (and passing the quizzes).

The first course, LIGHTCAP 1 “Fundamentals of light’s impact” will provide fundamental knowledge about visual and non-visual systems in the brain and about the way in which light interacts with relevant brain systems and regions. The basis of this course is mostly neuroscience.
Available from https://www.coursera.org/learn/lightcap-1-fundamentals-light-impact

The second course, LIGHTCAP 2 “Basics of light and its effects on humans”, covers light as a physical phenomenon and introduces important psychological and chronobiological outcomes (mood, cognition, alertness, sleep) – how to measure them and how light acts on them. The basis of this course is a combination of physics, psychology and chronobiology.
Available from https://www.coursera.org/learn/lightcap-2-basics-and-effects

The third course, LIGHTCAP 3 “Light in outdoor contexts” explores the principles of lighting and its effects on humans in various outdoor settings from the perspectives of pedestrians and drivers, covering topics such as alertness, wakefulness and attentiveness, but also feelings of safety and aesthetics. The basis of this course is predominantly in (environmental) psychology.
Available from: https://www.coursera.org/learn/lightcap-3-outdoor-lighting

This fourth course, LIGHTCAP 4 is titled “Light in indoor contexts”. This MOOC explores the principles of lighting and its effects on humans in various indoor settings. It introduces elements of light and light sources, light distribution indoors, lighting standards, measurements and, simulations as an important design tool for optimizing indoor lighting. The basis of this course is in building physics, lighting design and architecture.
