Dr. Luc Schlangen

Luc has worked for 23 years in various research and development positions within Philips and Signify in the area of lighting, health and wellbeing. In 2019 he joined the Human Technology Interaction group of the Eindhoven University of Technology as a senior researcher. His main research interests center on visual perception and light and health, with a special focus on photoreception processes and circadian, neurobehavioral and neuroendocrine responses to light and lighting. He studies these responses and interindividual differences in sensitivity to light in lab and field settings. 

He has chaired the committee that prepared international standard CIE S 026:2018 with new metrics to quantify light for its non-visual (ipRGC-influenced) responses. Since June 2019, he is serving as director of Division 6 “Photobiology and Photochemistry” of the international Commission on illumination (CIE), thus actively driving international knowledge development, standardization and recommendations in the field of photobiology, light and lighting.

Project involvement

Luc is a supervisor of ESR 7 “Spectral and time-related factors in acute Non-Image Forming (NIF) effects of light on human cognition and attention during daytime” and is also a member of the Supervisory Board of LIGHTCAP
